Andy Firr is a Senior Lecturer in Management and Programme Leader for MSc Engineering Management at the University of Chester. He joined the University in August 2022 and teaches across management, project management, entrepreneurship, operations, supply chain, innovation, and industrial work design.

His teaching focuses on applied management education, employability, professional judgement, and the development of students’ confidence as emerging professionals. He has developed and led Level 7 teaching in Industrial Work Design and Organisation, with particular attention to how students apply theory to real organisational and work-system problems.

Andy has a growing scholarly interest in artificial intelligence, academic integrity, assessment design, and the future of higher education. His current work explores how universities can support responsible AI use through clear teaching practice, transparent assessment design, and student-centred academic support. He is also interested in open scholarship and practice-led academic writing.

Before joining the University of Chester, Andy spent more than 15 years working with universities across the UK to develop entrepreneurship-based modules across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He worked with Young Enterprise, one of the UK’s leading enterprise education charities, where he supported enterprise education, project delivery, and student start-up activity.

Andy has also represented Young Enterprise UK internationally and has contributed to Junior Achievement Europe Start-Up Programme panels and enterprise education conferences in Liège, Helsinki, Riga, Oslo, and Tallinn.

Andy holds a BEd (Hons) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Chester, and an MSc in Business and Entrepreneurship from Edinburgh Napier University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
