Dr. Christine Barsoum joined the University of Chester in February 2026 as Academic Lead for Clinical Education , leading the Clinical Placement Learning and Support team, within the MBChB programme.

In this role, she oversees the quality assurance of clinical placements, readiness of students for clinical placements,  supports students throughout their placement experiences, and works closely with placement providers to address and resolve any concerns raised by either students or clinical sites. She also ensures that all learning outcomes set by the Clinical Year Leads are effectively achieved within placement settings.

Christine graduated with honours from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in 2013, one of the leading medical schools in Egypt. Following graduation, she undertook specialist training in Clinical Pathology, during which she completed a Master’s degree in Clinical and Chemical Pathology. Upon completion of her postgraduate training, she was awarded the title of Clinical Pathology Specialist and subsequently worked in clinical practice while also contributing to part-time roles in medical education in Egypt.

After relocating to the United Kingdom with her family, Christine joined the NHS and worked at Whiston Hospital, MWL NHS trust. She later moved into full-time academia as a Lecturer in Clinical Skills and Simulation at Edge Hill University, where she supported the delivery of clinical skills education and simulation-based learning for medical students and gained her PGCTHE degree with distinction. 

Christine is passionate about student support, inclusive medical education, and creating positive clinical learning environments. In addition to her role in clinical placements, she works closely with the Student Support Lead to assist students with academic and wellbeing concerns and to help implement appropriate reasonable adjustments to support students during their clinical placements.
