BIOGRAPHY

Senior Lecturer in Archaeology. Working on widening impactful access to heritage and cultural opportunities and exploring the social value of archaeology in today's world.

Caroline's disciplinary grounding is in archaeology, specifically in Iron Age and Roman Britain, where she has published in leading peer-reviewed journals and in which she leads active fieldwork programmes of national significance. Her development of co-produced, community-centred research generates demonstrable social, cultural, and economic value. This spans immersive digital heritage (Our City, Our Story), citizen science excavation (Roman Rossett), community archaeology (Big Dig Handbridge), and pioneering research into the role of heritage in criminal justice and rehabilitation (Past and Present).

Caroline joined the academic team in 2014 moving from her role as Community Archaeologist for Cadw, The Welsh Government’s Historic Environment Service. She has a background in commercial archaeology, and public and community engagement (among other things) and has experience communicating archaeology to the public through a range of media and is passionate about providing opportunities for people to get involved in, and inspired by, archaeology.
