RESEARCH INTERESTS
Emma is primarily a cell biologist with research interests that cover a range of musculoskeletal diseases from osteoporosis to rare inherited neuromuscular diseases. Emma is a member of the Bone Research Society and is the academic for lead the Metabolic Bone Research Group based at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen. The hospital unit has 12,000 patients a year and is developing research projects focused on drug-induced metabolic bone disease and diabetic bone disease. Emma also collaborates with researchers based at Keele University on projects focusing on osteoarthritis (being involved in clinical trials that advanced the development of stem cells based therapies for osteoarthritis) and on patients with inherited neuromuscular diseases. Previous collaborations have been with the University of Liverpool on projects related to ageing and osteoarthritis. Emma has specialist skills in mass spectrometry of proteins, commercial assay development, monoclonal antibody design and validation, cell culture in 2D and 3D systems, confocal microscopy and gene manipulation.
