Janet is an experienced mixed-methods researcher in the Centre for Ageing and Mental Health, which is based in Chester Medical School. Janet is skilled in qualitative and quantitative research methods and is proficient in using the associated software packages, for example, NVivo and SPSS. She has also undertaken Social Return on Investment training with Social Value UK. 

Janet works with colleagues in the Centre, the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society, and the wider university.  Her work in the Centre focuses mainly on the health and wellbeing of older adults and encompasses a variety of relevant topics.  Janet also collaborates closely with colleagues with other research interests so has been involved in a wide range of research and evaluation projects.  As a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society, she brings a psychological perspective to multi-disciplinary research teams. 

Janet has successfully collaborated with colleagues to write and develop funding applications which have facilitated research intended to enhance quality of care and service delivery in care homes.  For example,  producing a toolkit to safeguard older adults living in care homes, care home staff, and individuals visiting care homes during pandemics and infectious disease outbreaks, and an exploration of nurses' awareness of the Women's Health Strategy for England and its effectiveness in improving the health of older women living in nursing homes.  

Additionally, Janet works with colleagues out with the University, for example, Prince Songkla University Thailand, local authorities, lived experience organisations, and the voluntary sector. She is also a member of a Research and Practice Development Care Partnership focusing on adult social care.
