Professor of Sustainability and Associate Dean (Research & Innovation) at the University of Chester, where I lead research strategy and interdisciplinary programmes across multiple REF Units of Assessment and directs the Centre for Research into Environmental & Sustainable Transitions (CREST). My work focuses on connecting research to implementation, from place-based partnerships supporting rural communities adapting to flooding and climate change to leading a five-year European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme working with SMEs to bring environmental products and services to market, thereby strengthening regional innovation and economic resilience.

I work across academic and professional services communities to support the translation of research into impact and to develop collaborative partnerships between universities, industry and government. Earlier in my career at Cranfield University Defence and Security, my work focused on material criticality and sustainability. Current collaborations with the Geneva Graduate Institute, NORRAG and the Environmental Security Research Group at King’s College London explore environmental security, sustainability governance and academic freedoms.
