BIOGRAPHY

Ruth is a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Ruth joined the University of Chester in 2022 with a background in laboratory research where she specialised in electrophysiology. Working in the laboratory environment as a postdoctoral researcher for 10 years, Ruth gained experience in supervising laboratory students and teaching the research process. As a Teaching Fellow Ruth supported learning at Level 7 in Biological Psychiatry/Psychology and Neuroscience in the online environment.

Ruth is the Year 3 Academic Lead for the MBChB Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme. Ruth works in collaboration with the Year 3 Clinical Lead. Whilst the Academic and Clinical Leads are jointly responsible for overseeing Year 3, there is a difference in focus between the two roles. MBCHB students can contact Ruth for academic issues relating to Year 3, to provide feedback on the Y3 curriculum or to discuss their educational experience. Ruth can also be contacted to discuss the Year 3 SSC. Placement related queries and workplace based assessment enquiries should be directed to the Clnical Lead in the first instance.

Ruth remains passionate about  supporting research and is the Postgraduate Tutor for Chester Medical School. Within this role, Ruth has a range of responsibilities relating to postgraduate research student experience, ensuring that university PGR strategy is implemented within Chester Medical School. The School PGR Tutor forms a further confidential point of contact within the Faculty structure to resolve supervisory conflicts, manage health and well-being issues and ensure academic progress. PGR students within Chester Medical School can contact Ruth for pastoral care, academic guidance, and administrative support relating to their studies.
