Stefan joined the University of Chester in 2024, as a Research Technician within Chester Medical School providing technical support for MRes and PhD students. He then progressed to a Laboratory Technician and Demonstrator in the School of Natural Sciences, providing wider support through the management of laboratory equipment, chemicals and reagents.

He is a Molecular Biologist with a diverse background spanning academia, industry and government positions. He graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Bioveterinary Science, advancing his professional interests in molecular biology, parasitology, microbiology, genomics, and diagnostics.

Working at the Animal & Plant Health Agency, he undertook research in surveillance and diagnostics of zoonotic pathogens including Rabies. Developing key techniques in RNA & DNA extraction, tissue culture, ELISA and RT-qPCR. Following this he returned to the University of Liverpool until the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, where he joined the Alderley Park Lighthouse Labs, developing sequencing workflows, supporting diagnostic testing whilst supervising, mentoring and training over 150 laboratory scientists.

Recently he worked as Senior Molecular Biologist in a startup to conduct the UK’s largest genitourinary microbiome study, applying next generation sequencing technologies to investigate the relation between the microbiome and menopause, supporting improvements in women's health diagnostics.
