BIOGRAPHY
Served in the Royal Navy as a Radar/Sonar Operator and Weapons Electrical Mechanic for six years and served most of this time at sea, being one of the first cohort of Wrens to become seagoing, serving on HMS Invincible, HMS Cardiff and HMS Brave. I was part of the flotilla serving in the Bosnia conflict in 1993. After leaving the RN, I went on to work as a Communications Officer for the police and became a Control Room Suprervisor, working with the police for 13 years, after which time I decided to act on the desire to become a nurse.
I studied my BN (Hons) at Glyndwr University and was awarded the RCN in Wales Student Nurse of the Year 2014. Since qualifying I have worked as a staff nurse in ICU/HDU. Became a Community Nurse in 2015 and apart from a short time as an Education Facilitator in End-of-Life Care, continued with Community Nursing and completed my Specialist Practitioner Qualification in District Nursing in 2019 and was awarded the QNI SPQ DN Nurse of the Year 2019 for Innovation and Enterprise. This led on to me being asked to set up a Specialist Nurse role in Homeless and Inclusion Health in 2020. I joined the University of Chester in March 2022 as a Practice Education Facilitator working on the Clinical Placement Expansion Programme (CPEP). This involved working with partners across Cheshire and Merseyside to open new Private, Independent and Voluntary Organisations (PIVO) Placements for students undertaking their undergraduate programmes. I then became a Senior Lecturer in the Public Health and Wellbeing Department in April 2023. My role transferred over to the Nursing and Education Division in March 2024, with me now being based at Marriss House (UCB).
