RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr Nair’s research interests centre on diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disease, with particular focus on the renal and metabolic consequences of obesity and nutritional factors in diabetes. His doctoral research at the University of Liverpool examined the metabolic and renal effects of obesity and dietary protein intake in people with diabetes.
He has a strong interest in translational clinical research and clinical trials, including investigator-led and industry-sponsored multicentre studies, and has acted as Principal Investigator for several multinational clinical trials in diabetes and obesity. His work has explored renal, metabolic, immunological, and therapeutic aspects of diabetes, including diabetes-related kidney disease, immunotherapy in Type 1 diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy, and the metabolic impact of novel therapies.
Dr Nair has published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals including Science Translational Medicine, Diabetes Care, Diabetologia, Diabetic Medicine, Frontiers in Endocrinology, and the World Journal of Diabetes. Selected publications include work on immunotherapy in new-onset Type 1 diabetes, renal function estimation in diabetes-related kidney disease, diabetes outcomes during COVID-19 (ACCREDIT study), and systematic reviews on automated insulin delivery in Type 2 diabetes.
His current research interests include Type 2 diabetes remission, obesity management, collaborative research networks, and the translation of clinical research findings into routine clinical practice and service improvement.
